Welcome to County Sligo Cricket Club. The club was founded in 2009 when a group of enthusiasts came together and play some friendly matches. This season the club is entered in the Connacht league and the Midland cup competitions. We cater for all standards and welcome new members. County Sligo win first round of Dick O'Neill cup.

Sligo cricketers travelled to Dundalk to play their first round match of the Dick O'Neill cup competition which encompasses country teams as far away as Wexford. Sligo batted first making 219 all out with Rashid Waseem 119 becoming the first Sligo player to get a century. Dundalk fought gamely but Sligo took wickets regularly with a great team effort in the field to bowl them out for 152. Sligo now play NUIG in the quarter final next Sat 26th June.

County Sligo cricketers reach Connacht league final

Sligo travelled to Galway looking for their third win on the trot which would guarantee them a place in the end of season playoff. Skipper Muhammad Asif won the toss and elected to bat. It proved the correct decision as Sligo went about building a large total of 243. Top scorer was Rashid Waseem with a splendid 81. He formed good partnerships with Bakhtiar Butt(22) and Muhammad Asif(24). Qaiser Mahmood made an important late 40. Galway tried to chase the total in vain losing wickets along the way to finally reach 211. The wickets were shared between Niaz Ahmad (4-24), Qaiser Mahmood (3-29) and Patrick McKinney(2-18). A good overall team performance. With one league match to go the team has qualified for the Connacht league final in their first competitive season.

County Sligo win away to Athlone ...

The Sligo cricketers travelled to Athlone for their 2nd Connaught league game last Sunday. Athlone won the toss and put Sligo into bat. They were made to regret their decision as Sligo built a large total of 221 for 7 wickets. Top scorer was Sligo General’s Dr. Jamil Khan with 44 not out. He was supported well by Rizwan Sikander 39 not out, Bakhtiar Butt 30 and Usman Butt 28. In reply Athlone had a solid start reaching 70 for the first wicket. Then Sligo picked up a few quick wickets with Rashid Waseem leading the way before another good partnership left Athlone needing 65 off 60 balls with 4 wickets left. Then Niaz Ahmad made the breakthrough taking 3 wickets in 2 overs and Athlone were eventually out for 200. Niaz Ahmad and Rashid Waseem took 4 wickets a piece. Next up is County Galway away on Sunday 6th.

Sligo Cricketers win first competitive match.

County Sligo cricket club started their first ever Connaught league campaign with a close win away to NUI Galway on Sunday. Batting first Sligo put on a large total of 263 off 40 overs. Top scorer was Niaz Ahmad with 66 not out. He was supported by Bakthiar Butt 47 and Muhammed Asif 47. NUIG’s reply was swift despite losing wickets along the way. They reached the last over on 260 for 9, needing 4 runs off 6 balls. But a brilliant catch off the first ball by Patrick McKinney gave the win to Sligo. Man of the match Bakthiar Butt took 4 wickets and he was supported well by Qaisar Mahmood with 3 wickets. Next up is Athlone away on the 30th May. All Sligo matches are away at present as the club continues its search for a home ground..
